DIY Camera Rigs
For my final thesis and baccalaureate paper, I argue with the
phenomenon of the do-it-yourself mentality,
and how it is reflected in film- and videoproductions.
The concept of DIY is explained, and the scene linked with it,
in the USA and in Middle Europe, is described.
Furthermore I undertake a dive into the history of the tripod and the first tracking shots, describe various rigs and
have a go on building a steadycam, a camera crane and a cable camera.
The approach and the results are documented cinematically and added as a video.
With my work, I want to show that it is, also for people without craft education
or excessive talent (like me), easy to build equipment for camera work,
save costs, improve production value - and to have fun.
